Spring Fever Episode 1 Recap: A Quiet Teacher, A Feared Man, and Secrets That Refuse to Stay Buried

Spring Fever Episode 2 review

The most recent Korean drama available on Prime Video is Spring Fever, which begins with a gentle but emotionally-charged episode and lures the audience into the life of two damaged souls.

Yoon Bom: A Teacher Who Flees Her Past.

Yoon Bom is a new teacher in a small school in the countryside of Sinsu a long distance away her former life in Seoul. She came here hoping that the silence will be healing but her past does not want to let go. She is disturbed by the same troubled dream every night she is up in a classroom and she is confidently instructing, when she suddenly is slapped by an unknown lady.

A former teacher in Seoul, Bom had been considered an energetic and talented teacher with the ability to tell her stories, to an extent that she was even called Story Slayer. She would shine in parties and with ease attract attention. However, the woman we encounter now is not the same- quite, withdrawn and wearing nothing but black. She does not like associating with others to an extent that her fellow employees talk about her without even knowing she sits beside them.

Jae-gyu: Man Everybody Fears.

The peaceful life of the school is interrupted with the arrival of Seon Jae-gyu. He is very tall and buff and bears a huge tattoo of a dragon on his face which is just enough to scare the teachers. Word spread real fast--he was a gangster, a violent criminal, one who could not be fooled with.

But Jae-gyu has not come there in vain. His nephew Seon Han-gyeol, who is among the best students in school, was not awarded just because he is missing parents. Jae-gyu stands up to the teachers and reminds them that Han-gyeol had lost his parents and he has taken care of the boy single-handedly. His rage is not violent, it is defensive.

Yoon Bom, who is a little scared agrees mutely with him. She is well acquainted with Han-gyeol and thinks that the actions of the school are unjust and inhuman.

Another Side of Jae-gyu

In contrast to others, Yoon Bom starts perceiving fissures in the frightening image created around Jae-gyu. Upon a late-night brawling incident close to her house and her witnessing him at his ease, having a meal with other people, she begins to put doubts on the rumors. There is nothing dangerous about him, he is only misconstrued. Even she asks herself whether the tattoo that frightens all people is genuine or not.

The Denouement: Shadows From Seoul.

The parent-teacher meeting is an opportunity where the teachers openly leave the task of meeting Jae-gyu to Yoon Bom unattended. She is nervous, but notices how easy he is, and how he already knows her name, which makes her uncomfortable.

Towards the end of the episode, the story is brought back to Seoul where a lawyer called Choi Yi-joon is brought into the frame. He intends to put forward a lawsuit against Jae-gyu, indicating something very painful in his background of being bullied at school. Whatever transpired at the time, it is obvious that the past is about to take a hold--and serenity of Sinsu will not be long.
